In accordance with the laws of the Roman Catholic Church:

Godparents must be 16 years old or older, Catholic, and fully initiated in the Catholic Church (Baptized, have made their First Communion, and received Confirmation). If single, they must not be living with another person as a married couple. If married, they have been married in the Catholic Church, but do not have to be married to each other. They must be practicing their faith by attending weekly Sunday Mass and receiving Holy Communion regularly.
